[Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] A hard-metal-tip for a coal cutting tool comprises serrations on one side terminating in cutting-edges so that the tip may be driven into an unserrated slot. The serrations may be on one or both sides of the insert and may be parallel or at right-angles to the cutting edge of the tool. The slot or the insert may be tapered or curved. Illustrated is a coal-cutting pick, Fig. 11.
