Abstract

579,869. Tool holders. GINDERS, E. M., and GREATBATCH, G. H. Sept. 22, 1944, No. 5235. [Class 83 (iii)] A lathe &c. tool holder consists of a shank a having one or more grooves d, k on the end and side faces for the reception of a cutting bit e, the shank having one or more saw-cuts g passing into one of the side walls of the groove so that the latter may be contracted by a bolt or bolts j to grip the bit. The groove is preferably inclined as shown in Fig. 1 at the rake angle of the bit and the end faces of the shank are preferably inclined at different angles in a horizontal plane and a surface f is formed perpendicular to the inclined face. In another form, a narrow shank passes through a slot in a tool post and has an enlarged head provided with a longitudinal and a transverse inclined groove.
