Abstract

575,368. Magazine gramophones. AKTIEBOLAGET GYLLING & Co. March 13, 1944, No. 4680. Convention date, March 13, 1943. [Class 40 (ii)] In a magazine in which records to be played are stored on a central post, the lowermost record on the stack is displaced so as to fall on to the turntable by engagement of a pusher member moving with the tone arm as the latter is swung outwardly after the preceding record has been played. The tonearm 7 is pivoted about a horizontal axis 19, Fig. 3, on a bracket secured to a sleeve 11 which rotates within sleeves 14 and 15 secured above and below the motorboard 1 respectively, to enable the pick-up to be swung horizontally across the record and surrounds a push rod 13 by which vertical movement of the pickup is produced. The pusher member 8 is secured to the sleeve 11 and extends to the level of the lowermost record on the stack. The pusher member can form part of the tone arm if desired. The records are edge supported by a bracket 22 which can be raised by operating a knob 30 carried on a lever 28 pivoted at 29 underneath the motorboard. This lifts the lowermost record out of the path of member 8 and permits repeated playing of a record already fed to the turntable. Mounted below the record stack is a bell-crank lever which is urged upwardly by a spring but has an arm 41 which extends under the stack so that the lever is normally held down. When the stack is exhausted the bellcrank lever rises and the turned-up end of its other arm 42 obstructs the outward movement of the tonearm. This rotates the lever thereby actuating a switch to stop the machine with the tonearm at the position shown chain dotted in Fig. 1 and before member 8 reaches its record engaging position. When the machine is reloaded and re-started the tonearm completes its outward swing before swinging inwardly and a record will be fed to the turntable. The end 42 of the bell crank lever is bevelled to permit the inward movement of the turntable in playing the last record of the stack.
