Abstract

574,832. Potassium fluorozirconate. JAMRACK, W. D., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 24, 1944, No. 10012. [Class 1 (iii)] Potassium fluorozirconate is produced by reacting zirconyl chloride with potassium fluoride, both in cold aqueous solution. Normal potassium fluoride is preferred but the acid salt may be used. Equivalent amounts of zirconyl chloride and fluoride ion and a reaction temperature below 17‹C. are preferably used. The zirconyl chloride solution is preferably acidified with hydrochloric acid. The fluoride is preferably added rapidly to the zirconyl solution, vigorous stirring being applied. Suitable solution concentrations are one mol per litre zirconyl chloride and six mols per litre fluoride. The precipitate may be washed, recrystallized from boiling water, and dried. Examples are given.
