Abstract
574,719. Incandescent lamps. SIEMENS ELECTRIC LAMPS & SUPPLIES, Ltd., and ALDING- TON, J. N. Jan. 3, 1944, No. 38. [Class 39 (ii)] A bright light source for a gas filled high wattage incandescent electric lamp consists of a filament 17, 18, around which a screen of translucent, diffusive refractory material 23 is vertically disposed so as to cause the visible energy from the filament to appear as a glowing mass. The screen may be designed to give a desired polar distribution of light. Sufficient space is left between the filament and the screen to permit free circulation of the convection stream of the inert filling. To avoid the direct transmission of light small auxiliary diffusing screens 26, may be provided at the top and bottom of, and to overlap the screen 23, which may, for example, be cylindrical or spherical. The screens may be supported by the filament supports 11. A mirror may be formed on a portion of the interior of the screen 23.
