Abstract

920,496. Incandescent electric lamps. A.E.I. LAMP & LIGHTING CO. Ltd. Feb. 23, 1960 [March 6, 1959], No. 7895/59. Class 39 (2). In a dual filament assembly for a gas-filled incandescent lamp of the kind which produces in association with a suitable reflector, beams of light having different orientations in relation to the reflector, one filament being so located as to produce a beam coaxial with the reflector and the other filament a beam displaced from the axis of the reflector, a colour filter is so associated with the latter filament as to intercept only light rays from that filament to the reflector, the colour filter conforming to the surface of the upper half of the reflector so that correction currents in the filling gas are deflected by the surface of the filter and limit the deposit thereon of material sputtered from the filament. The assembly may be used in a lamp for mounting in a vehicle headlamp or may be mounted in a headlamp of the sealed beam type. The assembly comprises a main filament 1 at the focus of the reflector 4 with its axis at right angles to the axis of the reflector and a filament 2 arranged with its axis along the axis of the reflector. The filter 3 is mounted between the filaments so as to intercept light from the filament 2 falling on the upper half of the reflector, a shield 5 being arranged below the filament 2 to prevent light from this filament reaching the lower half of the reflector. Specification 365,775 is referred to.
