898,612. Electric incandescent lamps with internal screens. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 10, 1959 [Feb. 13, 1958], No. 4627/59. Class 39(2) A vehicle headlamp bulb having an antidazzle filament arranged in front of the focal point of the reflector and slightly above the optical axis thereof has a strip shaped screen interposed between the filament and the reflector so as partially to obscure the filament from the reflector, the screen being so disposed in relation to the filament and of such width that it produces in the light beam from the filament a sector shaped shadow zone which extends over the offside of the road has a horizontal boundary and a boundary extending upwards at 30 degrees to the horizontal. The headlamp may comprise a helical main filament 7 of arcuate form mounted at the focal point of the reflector (not shown) and a straight helical filament 8 parallel to and slightly above the optical axis 0-0 of the reflector and in front of the focal point thereof. A narrow strip mask 9 extends alongside the filament 8, the rear end being bent round towards the optical axis. The filaments 7, 8 are carried by supply wires 4, 5 respectively and by a common supply wire 3 which also serves to support the mask 9.
