Abstract

773,698. Vehicle headlights; screens within bulbs. SOC. POUR LA FABRICATION DES PROJECTEURS ELECTRIQUES MARCHAL. Feb. 16, 1955 [Feb. 17, 1954; Dec. 30, 1954], No. 4592/55. Classes 39(2), 75(2) and 75(4) In a vehicle headlamp a bulb having a dipping filament fitted with a shield to produce a dipped beam is mounted so that it can take up at least two different positions corresponding to symmetrical dipping or to left or right transversely tilted symmetrical dipping as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 (transverse sections of the beam), the tilt or asymmetry of the beam being produced by a shield 11, Fig. 4, having wing shields 11a, 11b inclined to each other. The lamp bulb 15 containing the shielded filament is provided with a collar 14 having a lug 19 which, when the lamp is placed home in the central band 13 of the reflector 12; is positioned in one or other of notches 16, 17 depending on the transverse tilt of the beam required and can be changed from one notch to the other when it is required to change the tilt. Inscriptions 16a, 17a may indicate the type of beam dipping corresponding to each position of the bulb. In another embodiment the lamp bulb 15 is secured to the reflector which is adjustable to different angular positions about its optical axis. In another embodiment the bulb is positioned by a lug on a stationary reflector received in one or other of a plurality of recesses in a spring member on the bulb holder, or by one recess in such spring member being engaged by one of a plurality of lugs, formed, e.g. by bending down tongues cut in a central band of the reflector.
