Abstract

PURPOSE:In a discharging lamp where a bimetal and a ballast are contained in an outer tube, to achieve the reliable lighting by employing a bimetal having specific open function characteristic thereby setting up a constant time elasping unitl the start of opening function. CONSTITUTION:A ballast 3 and a bimetal switch 4 together with a light emitting tube 2 are contained in an outer tube. The bimetal switch 4 has such characteristic as to perform the opening, function within 1.5-40sec through self heating, when supplying the current two times of the lamp starting current in N2 gas environment of 300 To. Since the opening function is performed through self heating even if there is fluctuation due to the radiation heat from the ballast 3, heat transmitted from the bimetal through the supporting member, gas convection, etc., the arc discharging is produced reliably in the light emitting tube, resulting in stable lighting.
