574,715. Packing granular material. HERCULES POWDER CO. April 8, 1943, No. 5668. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1942. [Class 94 (i)] [Also in Group XXI] A device for charging fixed amounts of explosive simultaneously into shells or containers 20 comprises a shell supporting plate 22, a stationary charge releasing plate 7 having openings 8 opposite to the mouths of the shells, a stationary charge storing plate 9 having openings forming bins 10 which are charged from a reciprocatable hopper 11, and a metering plate 13 having openings 14, the plate 13 being reciprocable between fixed stop 17 and 18 to receive charges from the bins 10 and then to deliver the charges through the openings 8 into the shells. The planes 9 and 7 are faced with soft rubber 15, 16 to prevent pinching, and thereby detonation, of the explosive.
