574,609. Ships carrying bulk cargoes. BYLO, J. J. Sept. 15, 1943, No. 15133. Convention date, Sept. 23,1942. [Class 113 (ii)] One or more demountable cargo-receiving holds or platforms 4 are fixedly supportable on the deck 2 of a vessel 1 and are supportable in vertical spaced relation to the vessel from dock or pier structures 14 disposed laterally of the vessel. The hold 4 may project laterally and rearwardly beyond the deck 2, and it may be provided with doors, reinforcing bottom trusses 6, 7 and laterally projecting supports 7a. Each truss 6 has one or more downwardly tapered anchorage members 8 to engage corresponding sockets 10 in the deck beams 9, locking being effected by one or more fore-andaft bolts 11 operated in unison by electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic means. The vessel 1 is moved vertically towards or away from the hold 4 by means of water ballast tanks 13. In a modification, the laterally projecting supports 7a are replaced by reciprocable plungers mounted on the docks 14 and engaged in unison with sockets in the ends of the trusses 6.
