775,527. Freight carrying tankers. McLEAN, M. P. Aug. 22, 1955 [Aug. 26, 1954], No. 24114/55. Class 113. [Also in Group XVII] In a combined bulk cargo and general freight ship having cargo holds 38 below the deck 25 and forecastle and poop decks 21, 22, the pay load carrying capacity of the ship is augmented by a framework 28 extending above the hull between the forward and rearward decks 21, 22 and forming a support for general freight. Said framework includes longitudinal and thwartship girders 30 and 29 respectively which form a seat 32 for two fore and aft rows of containers 45 (see Group XVII), placed in staggered relationship athwartships. The undersurface stiffeners on the containers are engageable by quick connectdeconnect fastening means on the supporting framework for securing the containers to the supporting seat. The freight is loaded into trailers 55 each of which is driven into a container and secured therein by a pedestal 58 and inflatable members such as 56 and 65 arranged between the exterior of the trailer and the interior surfaces of the container. The container is lifted on to the supporting seat on the ship by means of D-rings 66.
