Abstract

A composition for use as a compounding ingredient for rubber is formed by treating a vulcanizable oil such as linseed, rape or castor oil with sulphur or a sulphur agent, in presence of a pitch or pitch-like substance of animal or vegetable origin such as stearine pitch, fatty acid pitch or wool grease pitch. Equal weights of raw or blown linseed oil and stearine pitch are mixed at 52 DEG C., the mixture is heated to 80-90 DEG C. and an equal weight of sulphur is slowly introduced with continuous stirring. The temperature is raised to 160 DEG C. when reaction takes place. Up to 30 per cent of the linseed oil may be replaced by mineral oil. The amount of sulphur must be at least 24 per cent of the total ingredients.
