Abstract
A material suitable for use in the lacquer, linoleum, synthetic resin and synthetic leather industries is obtained by heating a mixture consisting of 30-90 per cent by weight of natural rubber, gutta-percha or balata with oils and/or fats, other than mineral oils and fats, or the fatty acids obtained therefrom at a temperature above 200 DEG C. alone or dissolved in a neutral solvent, p until little or no gases or vapours escape. The oils may be olive oil, nut oil, fish oil, castor oil, cocoa-fat, animal fat, suet or lard. The material may be further modified by treating, optionally in a solvent such as toluene, carbon tetrachloride or xylene, with oxygen, a halogen, sulphur chloride, chloro-sulphonic acid, sulphuric acid, organic sulphonic acid chlorides or nitric acid. Driers such as cobalt resinate or manganese linoleate and neutralizing agents such as caustic soda and hexamethylene tetramine may also be added.ALSO:A material suitable for use in the lacquer, linoleum, synthetic resin and synthetic leather industries is obtained by heating a mixture consisting of 30-90 per cent by weight of natural rubber, such as crepe, or smoked sheet, guttapercha or balata, with oils and/or fats, other than mineral oils and fats, or the fatty acids obtained therefrom at a temperature above 200 DEG C., alone or dissolved in a neutral solvent, until little or no gases or vapours escape. The oils may be olive oil, nut oil, fish oil, castor oil, cocoa-fat, animal fat, suet or lard. The material may be further modified by treating, optionally in a solvent, such as toluene, carbon tetrachloride or xylene, with oxygen, a halogen, sulphur chloride, chlorosulphonic acid, sulphuric acid, organic sulphonic acid chlorides or nitric acid. Driers such as cobalt resinate or manganese linoleate, and neutralizing agents such as caustic soda and hexamethylene tetramine may also be added.
