Abstract

Tackiness of vulcanized rubber articles is prevented or removed by treatment of the rubber before or after vulcanization with a phosphatide and an aliphatic or aromatic acid, or salt thereof. These materials may be mixed, or condensed by heating, and added to the rubber, particularly dispersions or solutions, or they may be added separately. Shaped articles before or after vulcanization may be dipped into a solution or dispersion of the two types of material, or may be treated with the materials separately. A suitable phosphatide is lecithin; acids specified are stearic, palmitic, oleic, benzoic. According to an example, gloves &c. are made by dipping a former into a mix of latex (100 parts rubber) 1 part of piperidine pentamethylene dithio carbamate, 1 part of zinc oxide, 2 parts of sulphur and 3 parts of a condensation product produced by heating 75 parts of lecithin and 25 parts of oleic acid at 60 DEG C. for three quarters of an hour with stirring, and dispersing in dilute ammonia.
