Abstract

Emulsions of rubber substitutes are made by emulsifying vulcanized fatty oils while fluid with aqueous solutions or dispersions of dispersing agents. The emulsions may be added to natural or artificial dispersions of rubber, guttapercha, balata, and reclaimed rubber, and dyes, fillers, vulcanizing agents, &c. may be added as desired. Articles may be manufactured therefrom, e.g. according to the processes of Specifications 233,458, 284,608, 292,964, 301,476, 330,520, and 335,621, [all in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.]. Dispersing agents specified are fatty acid and resin soaps, saponin, ammoniacal casein, and turkey-red oil. In examples: (1) 85 kg. of colza oil is stirred with 15 kg. of sulphur for 5 hrs. at 150 DEG C., allowed to cool to 95 DEG C., and homogenized with 40 kg. of a 3 per cent solution of saponin; the fluid product becomes paste-like after standing 48 hrs. (2) 10 kg. of 33 per cent rubber latex, 2 kg. of a 75 per cent dispersion prepared according to Ex. 1, 60 gm. of sulphur, 100 gm. of zinc oxide, 10 gm. of piperidine-pentamethylene-dithiocarbonate, and 50 gm. of calcium sulphate are compounded. The Provisional Specification describes also the incorporation of a dispersing agent with a sulphurized fatty oil while the oil is fluid, e.g. at 90-100 DEG C. Specification 351,012, [Group V], also is referred to.ALSO:Emulsions of rubber substitutes are made by emulsifying vulcanized fatty oils while fluid with aqueous dispersions or solutions of dispersing agents. The emulsions may be added to natural or artificial dispersions of rubber, guttapercha, balata, and reclaimed rubber, and dyes, fillers, vulcanizing agents, &c. may be added as desired. Articles may be manufactured therefrom, e.g. according to the processes of Specifications 233,458, 284,608, 292,964, 301,476, 330,520, and 335,621, [all in Class 70, Indiarubber &c.]. The Provisional Specification describes also the incorporation of a dispersing agent with a sulphurized fatty oil while the oil is fluid, e.g. at 90-100 DEG C.
