Vulcanizing-compositions; vulcanizing by cold methods. - Rubber is vulcanized by treatment with a sulphide or mixture of sulphides of phosphorus. The rubber may be in solid, dissolved or emulsified form, and the sulphide, may be added as a solid or dissolved in a solvent such as carbon disulphid.e, or benzene. In mixing solid rubber with the sulphide, the rolls should be kept cool and/or a small quantity of rubber solvent should be added to minimize risk of pre. vulcanization. According to an example a former coated by dipping is immersed for three minutes in a concentrated solution of phosphorus tri or penta sulphide, removed, dried, and stripped. Other examples are given of vulcanizing solutions, proofed fabrics, and solid rubber.
