Abstract

172,398. Ostberg, A. J., and Kenny, A. Sept. 3, 1920. Spongy india-rubber.-A spongy rubber composition is made by vulcanizing a mixture of rubber, sulphur, zinc white, and carbonate of magnesia, to which has been added a volatile oil or spirit such as benzine. A mixture of new and crumb rubber, or ground crumb alone may be used. According to an example, a mixture consisting of 15lb. of Para rubber, 15lb. of reclaimed rubber, 13lb. of sulphur, 9lb. of zinc white, and 1¢lb. of carbonate of magnesia, and a volatile oil, preferably 10lb. to every 45lb. of the rubber composition is vulcanized for about one hour at a steam pressure of 40lb. per sq. in.
