Abstract
Aromatic bases useful as vulcanization accelerators are prepared by treating p-nitroso derivatives such as p-nitroso-aniline, p-nitroso-dimethylaniline, and p-nitroso-phenol, in neutral solution with at least one but less than two molecular equivalents of hydrogen sulphide. Benzol or water may be the solvent. The bases produced react strongly with carbon bisulphide, hydrogen sulphide being evolved. From 1/2 to 2 per cent of the bases may be added to rubber mixture before vulcanization.
