335,970. Carpmael, A., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). July 2, 1929. Vulcanizing synthethic rubber.-Rubber-like masses obtained by polymerizing hydrocarbons such as butadiene, or homologues or analogues thereof are vulcanized in the presence of an accelerator previously dissolved in a solvent, or admixed with a liquifying agent. This treatment of the accelerator results in a vulcanizate having improved stretch and breaking strength. Suitable solvents are water, alcohol, hydrocarbons, chlorinated hydrocarbons, ethers, weak acids, liquid bases; stearic acid is specified as softening agent. Numerous examples are given of the effect of vulcanizing butadiene rubber with various accelerators, both without solvents, and also in solution, or liquefied.
