Abstract

302,733. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Dec. 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Caoutchouc, synthetic. - Synthetic rubber masses are produced by mixing various separately obtained polymerization products of the same hydrocarbon of the butadiene type. The various polymerization products may be obtained by treating the hydrocarbon with different polymerizing agents or with different qualities of the same agent or by varying the time of treatment or the nature and quantity of energy supplied; and the polymerization products may be mixed on rollers or in a kneading machine, or synthetic latices may be mixed and the mixture coagulated. In the examples (1) isoprene is polymerized by sodium at 35‹ C. for 11, 13, 15, and 17 days respectively, the products being then washed with methanol and water and mixed on rollers; (2) isoprene is emulsified with sodium oleate solution and polymerized at 60‹ C. for 15, 17, 19, 21, and 23 hours respectively, the cream-like masses being then diluted with water, mixed, and coagulated; (3) isoprene is polymerized with sodium at 35‹ C. for 13 days and the product is washed with methanol and water, dried, .and mixed on rollers with the product of the second example. The products can be vulcanized in the usual way.
