Latex, treating ; indiarubber compositions. - Cellulose xanthate gel is added to rubber &c. latex or aqueous dispersions of rubber &c., with agitation or stirring until the mixture creams and becomes viscous. The xanthate should contain 25-30 per cent of cellulose and may be added in varying amounts in the form of a rubber-like mass containing a minimum amount of water, 10 per cent producing a final product which is elastic, while 50 per cent, calculated on the dry rubber content, produces leather-like products. Stabilizers, protective colloids, fillers, dyes, vulcanizing agents, anti-ageing compounds, softeners, &c. may be added either to the gel or dispersion, or to the cream during or after formation. The cream may be used in operations involving moulding, dipping, spreading, spraying, extrusion, impregnating, and, after thinning, for electrophoretic processes. The cream may also be milled into rubber, serving as a medium for the introduction of cellulose xanthate or ingredients such as carbon black into the mix. The cream may also be coagulated in the usual manner.
