Abstract

An elastomeric composition comprises (a) from 25 to 85 parts of a random rubbery copolymer of 13-butadiene and styrene prepared by the solution polymerization of a major butadiene/minor styrene mixture using an organo-lithium catalyst and a liquid solvent mixture containing from 0.005 to 50% of the solvent mixture of an ether, thioether or tertiary amine, the remainder of the solvent mixture being a diluent hydrocarbon which is liquid and inert under the reaction conditions and (b) from 75 to 15 parts of natural rubber. The usual vulcanizing and compounding ingredients may be present and the composition may be vulcanized and used to produce tyre treads.
