Abstract

A rubbery composition comprises (A) a rubbery polymer of butadiene, of cis 1-4 content of from 23 to 60%, a total 1-4 content of from 85 to 95 and a 1-2 content not in excess of 15%, the polymer being prepared by the use of an ionic catalyst in a non-aqueous polymerization system, the polymer having a ML4 Mooney of at least 12 (B) 40 to 200 parts carbon black and (C) 15 to 150 parts of plasticizer per 100 polymer. Component (A) may comprise 25 to 75 parts of the rubbery polymer together with 75 to 25 parts of natural rubber, a rubbery polymer of isoprene having at least 90% cis 1-4 content or a rubbery emulsion copolymer of butadiene and styrene. By "rubbery polymer of butadiene" is meant a polymer or copolymer with styrene, o, m or p-methyl styrene, alpha-methyl styrene, the various dimethyl styrenes, indene, vinyl pyridine, vinyl naphthalene, acrylonitrile, allyl benzene, allyl toluene, allyl naphthalene, stilbene, methyl stilbene, isobutene, 1-3-diphenyl-1-butene, isoprene, triphenylethylene, and halogen substituted derivatives of the foregoing. Any of the usual rubber compounding plasticizers, especially aromatic oils may be present. The usual compounding ingredients may be present and the composition may be cured.
