Abstract

574,151. Controlling aircraft. ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH AIRCRAFT, Ltd., SIR W. G., and LLOYD, J. Jan. 8, 1944, No. 389. [Class 4] A rudder 23 is mounted on a corrector flap 22 which can be set to introduce correction in any desired direction by irreversible mechanism, such as a hydraulic jack 29 attached to the vertical fin 20. The rudder may be provided with a servo tab 24, and at its leading edge may carry a balancing vane 26 which projects into a recess 27 at the trailing edge portion of the corrector flap. The corrector flap and rudder together occupy about one-half of the overall cord length. Specification 573,084 is referred to.
