574,149. Compound sheet materials; decorating fibrous material. FREIBERG, H., and FREIBERG, S. Jan. 6, 1944, No. 287. [Class 140] [Also in Group XV] Compound sheet materials are produced by applying to the surface of a fibrous material decorative reticulated sheet material, securing this to the surface by beads of resin formed in situ from a liquid or pasty hardenable resinous composition applied through holes in the sheet material and/or to the edge of the sheet material so as to adhere both to the said sheet material and to the surface of the fibrous material. Fibrous materials specified are leather, artificial leather, wood, paper, and cardboard. Examples of reticulated material are net, lace, metal gauze, or sheets of non-fibrous material in which holes have been formed (e.g., cellulose ester plastic, regenerated cellulose or synthetic resin). The specified resin used in the production of the beads is urea-formaldehyde resin which may contain pigments, dyes or fibres. Heat may be used to set the resin. In an example, a piece of textile fabric has a net secured to it by means of droplets of a pigmented beat-hardened ureaformaldehyde resin which is then hardened by heating in an oven.
