Abstract

573,300. Vehicle wheels. CLARKE, N. V. Oct. 16, 1944, No. 19985. [Class 144 (i)] A tread lug for tractor &c. wheels comprises a core or support with a cap or other outer wearing .surface of relatively harder material. As shown in Fig. 1, the core is formed by two angle-irons 3 connected by a weld 5 around a steel rod 4, the cap 6 being an armour weld or a separately-formed steel cap secured by screwing, bolting, or welding. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which an armour-weld cap 10 is formed around a core 9 arranged between the spaced ends of the limbs 3. Fig. 5 shows a further modification in which a core-plate 11 fits closely between the limbs 3, the hard metal cap 12 being secured to the projecting end of the plate. In all cases, the.arms 7 of the angleirons may be bolted or welded to the wheel rim.
