Abstract
573,011. Flexible pipes. SWAIN, F. E., and DARBY, D. Jan. 31, 1944, No. 1737. [Class 99 (ii)] A flexible pipe is constructed from a stack of washers which are alternately rigid and flexible. Rigid washers 12 and rubber washers 14 which may be bonded thereto are assembled on a flexible lining 13, the end washers 14 being also bonded to coupling members 16. The washers are preferably dished and the rubber washers 14 may comprise a series of annular fins integral with the lining 13. Alternatively, the tube comprises a helically coiled metal member inter-wound with a helical flexible member both of similar form to the washers. In addition to, or alternatively to, bonding the washers together they may be held by a tensioned cord which passes up and down the pipe through holes in the washers and terminal coupling members and has its ends secured together.
