Abstract
572,747. Waterproofing felt; agglutinated fibrous materials. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., ROGERSON J., and WARREN, F. W. Nov. 13, 1943, No. 18932. [Class 140] Felt is made abrasion resistant and waterproof by impregnating it with an aqueous emulsion of a drying oil that has been heated in the presence of a drier, pressing to remove excess emulsion and drying to remove water and oxidize the drying oil. Wetting agents may be used to assist impregnation. Linseed or tung oil, dehydrated castor oil, soya bean oil, menhaden, or sardine body oil may be used alone or in conjunction, and the drier may be litharge, red lead, manganese dioxide, or a linoleate of lead, manganese, or cobalt. The products may be loose and felt-like, or leatherlike, and may be used for shoe soles, floor coverings, and instrument mountings.
