[Class 122 (v)] A rotary member 11 for transmitting motion into an evaluable vessel for operating a valve, pump &c. passes through a liquid seal 17 connected to a vacuum, line and contained in a chamber sealed at one end by a gland packing 12 and at the other end by radial surfaces 14, 15 held in contact by a spring 23. In a plant employing two vacuum pumps, as described in Specification 568,105, the liquid seal is connected to the pump operating at the higher pressure.
