571,713. Turning. RUBERY OWEN & CO., Ltd., and WARNER, A. Oct. 21, 1943, No. 17328. [Class 83 (iii)] Steady rests.-The body 12 of a roller steady has an intermediate portion of saddle-like shape extending well over the sides of the workbar 18 and is provided with a transverse channel 30 in its underside intersecting the passage for the work-bar, in a position adjacent the,supports for the tool and steadies, to assist in removing swarf. The box has a flanged plate 13 for attachment to the turret and at the other end a boss 14 grooved to receive a cutting tool 16 and a plate 21 adjustable radially of the work-bar by a pin-and-slot connection 24, 25, the plate carrying steady rollers 19. Each roller is mounted on a pin 20 projecting into a hole in the plate 21 and held in position by a Z-shaped bracket 22 secured to the plate by a screw 23. The plate is located in a selected position by means of twoscrews 26 which screw into the body 12 and is then clamped by a screw 24. Two screws 17 serve to clamp the tool 16. The spine of the saddle-like body is broadened to the full width of the base of the body in the region of the slot 30 in order to compensate for the diminution in strength due to the presence of the channel 30.
