[Class 74 (ii)] The cutting and trapping device for the splicing yarn fed to the needles of a circular machine comprises a vertically movable plunger 11 mounted in the latch ring 2 and positioned close to the needle circle. The lower end 68 of the plunger is of rectangular cross section and fits within a slot in a block 66 secured below the latch ring. The splicing yarn is received in a slot 70 and an edge on the block 66 at one side of plunger serves to cut the yarn, which is trapped between the plunger and the block. In one form the lower end 68 of the plunger has a longitudinally extending slot 97, and a thin member is mounted within the block 66 so as to engage in the slot 97 so as to ensure additional trapping of the yarn. The splicing yarn feeder 7 is pivotally mounted below the latch ring so as to swing tangentially to and from feeding position and to have a vertical component of movement so that it moves outwardly and upwardly as it is retracted so that the splicing yarn 6 is guided into the slot 70 of the trapper. The splicing yarn feeder has a hook-shaped end 82 bevelled so as open passing latches or to allow them to pass without damage if they are in such part-closed condition as to strike the feeder. A wire 102 is secured at 103 beneath the bracket 66 and is shaped to guide the withdrawn splicing yarn into the slot 70 of the trapper. The wire 102 is arranged so that partly closed latches pass beneath it. An adjustable stop screw is provided for limiting the inward movement of the feeder so that the splicing yarn can be made to plate on either side of a ground yarn, or between two other yarns.
