Abstract
571,365. Multi-hull ships. BURGESS, A. H. G. Feb. 7, 1944, No. 2196. [Class 113 (ii)] A ship comprises a pair of outer stems 1, 3 of part hull form which direct water in front of them only towards a central stem 2 of normal hull form. The three stems are joined together for a short distance at the bottom centre so as to produce a continuous and unbroken deck surface and structure below deck level, and two longitudinal tunnels 5, 6 of venturi formation in the front ends of which are arranged large hollow tractor screws 7 mounted on shafts 8 which may be lowered into the water. The screws 7 may be used for steering without rudders. The outside lines of the ship are straight and the side walls may be vertical or overhung.
