[Class 78 (i)] Means for discharging dough or like plastic pieces from a conveying belt or surface 1 comprise a bar or roll 4 adapted to be moved across the conveying surface and means for imparting a rotary motion to the roll while it engages the dough piece to provide a lifting and rolling motion to the dough piece. In the construction shown a conveyer belt 1 extends across the face of a dough prover having pockets 2 into which the dough, pieces from the belt are fed by a reciprocating roll or bar 4 carried by arms 5 fixed on a shaft 6. An arm 8 on the shaft carries a roll 9 engaging a cam 10 on the driving shaft 11 of the conveyer, so that the bar, is moved to-and-fro across the face of the belt 1. The shaft 6 is so situated relatively to the belt that the bar 4 rises as it moves across the belt to deliver the dough pieces to the pockets 2; at the same time the bar 4 is rotated by means of straps 14 which pass round the bar and over pulleys 22, and are fastened at one end to brackets 16 and are kept taut by springs 15. The belt 1 passes over a table 3 which has an extension 20 bridging the gap between the belt and the pockets 2. A back aboard 21 prevents the dough pieces from being thrown past the pockets. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown); the arms are mounted on a shaft above the belt instead of below, and the roll 4 is rotated positively by chain gear and a spur wheel engaging a fixed sector wheel.
