Abstract

619,657. Endless-belt conveyers. GIBBS, S. T., WILSON, G. D., and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1946, No. 37384. [Class 78 (i)] In a biscuit conveyer, biscuits are conveyed along a path having a vertical component between a pair of endless conveyer bands, the biscuit conveying laps of which are caused to follow an arcuate path, the chord of which is vertical or has a predominant vertical component, by travelling against stationary convex backing or deflector plate means, the conveyer bands being made of soft, resilient or cushioning material. Biscuits from conveyer 1, Fig. 1a, are conveyed between resilient tensioned bands 28, 15, Figs. 1 and 1a, around the stationary curved guide 13 and are discharged on to a conveyer 31 over a knife edge 16 formed in the inner and driven band 15. To prevent biscuits from sticking to the outer band 28 a row of knobs 51, attached to springs 50, are caused to tap the band 28 by pivotal movement of a member 47a operatively connected to rods 45 which are moved longitudinally in bearings 46 by the engagement of their lower ends with driven ratchet wheels 44. Rollers 7, 10 and belts 28, 15 are constructed with resilient surfaces to prevent damage to biscuits, and the guide 13 may have a resilient surface covered with American cloth to allow the belts to slide freely thereon. In an embodiment (not shown), the continuous guide 13 may be replaced by a series of short guides, each having a reversed curvature relative to the former guide, with or without spaces therebetween over which the bands travel vertically and tangentially to the curved guides. The arrangement is such that the biscuits may be delivered from this sinuous path with either side uppermost depending upon whether an odd or even number of guides are provided. In a further embodiment (not shown) the plate 13 is provided with a series of closely spaced sunk rollers throughout its length. Specifications 536,262, 548,429, and 570,873 are referred to.
