Abstract

711,524. Endless belt conveyers. CABLE BELT, Ltd. March 23, 1953 [April 22, 1952]. No. 10124/52. Class 78 (1) In a belt conveyer of the kind in which the belt is supported and driven by two endless cables, one on each side of the belt, transversely extending resilient metal rods are embedded in the belt at intervals and cable engaging means are provided within the width of the belt and within the span of the rods. As shown in Figs. 1, 5, the belt is supported by cables 11, 12 passing over pulleys mounted on stands 13, alternate stands supporting two pairs of pulleys 14, 15 for the upper and lower cable runs, whilst the intermediate stands support a single pair 14 for the upper run only. The belt comprises thick and thin layers 23, 24 of hard wearing resilient material, the layer 23 having embedded in it a reinforcement 25 of textile material such as duck. Between the layers are spring steel straps 26, the spaces between the straps being filled with a material 27 of a similar nature to that of the layers 23, 24 but of an inferior quality. On each surface of the belt at a position opposite a strap 26 pairs of lugs 16, 17 integral with the belt provide notches 18 for the cables 11, 12. A rib 19 is also moulded on each side of the belt. In a modification Fig. 8 (not shown), the straps are replaced by round bars and the cable-engaging means are formed by longitudinal ribs or ridges on the belt. Specifications 641,817 and 703,891 are referred to.
