Abstract

638,681. Conveyers. FISHER & LUDLOW, Ltd. Oct. 3, 1947, No. 267.02. [Class 78 (i)] An endless-belt conveyer, of the kind in which the upper run of the belt is shaped to trough form in cross section has a sheet metal support for the upper run which support is continuous in a direction longitudinally of the conveyer and continuous or substantially continuous transversely, the support being of trough shape in cross section and being adapted to maintain the trough shape of the cross-section of the upper run of the belt the extent of the troughing being such that the material tends to fall from the edges of the belt under gravity the support being provided with means extended continuously along the length of the belt which overlaps each of the longitudinal edge portions of the upper run of the belt so as to prevent the material carried by the upper run of the belt from being forced around the longitudinal edges thereof under the laterally directed pressure exerted by the conveyed material. The support comprises units 10, 11, formed of sheet metal which is bent as shown in Figs. 7 and 8 to form sections 16 which are supported on side members 24. Each unit has end flanges 13 and 25 secured together by bolts. The plates have integral side flanges 20, Fig. 6, and have a guard flange 21, 22 secured thereto providing a gap 23 for free movement of the edge of the belt to prevent spilling. The supports flatten out at the ends 17 of the belt. Brackets 26 are attached to the side members to secure idler rollers 27 for the return run 28 of the belt which also passes over a belt tensioning roller. The support may be made of separate units 16 connected together. Specification 638,680 is referred to.
