Abstract
621,424. Endless belt conveyers. SHEPPARD, W. V. Feb. 24, 1947, Nos. 5364 and 13678. [Class 78 (i)] In an endless belt conveyer, sections of the belt 15, Fig. 1, at intervals in the operative conveying length thereof are given a steeply inclined trough section by operating upon a movable endless length of underbelt 14 which is of greater width but confined to an operative length substantially equivalent to that of the desired steeply inclined trough section, said under belt being interposed between the belt 15 and supporting troughing rollers 13 therefor, which rollers are set at angles of inclination to impart the trough formation to the belt 15 whereby when the material being conveyed enters the steeply inclined trough sections, it is caused to collect in a substantially centralised heap on the belt 15 for continued conveyance in that condition after passing out of said trough section. The troughing rollers 13, which are arranged at a greater inclination to the horizontal in the centre of each troughing section than at the ends, may be eccentrically mounted and resiliently covered to assist the movement of material from belt 14 to belt 15, and opposite pairs of end rollers may be spring-loaded to allow the passage of especially large pieces of material. End tensioning rollers 16 may have either concave or convex surfaces to impart the curved formation to the under belt Where a troughed section is situated adjacent a telescopic pan 20 at the return end of the conveyer the spillage into said pan is returned to the belt 15, Fig. 3, by the belt 14 on to which the spillage is delivered by ploughs 21 situated near the funnelled end of a supplementary pan 19. The belt 14 which is normally driven by frictional contact with the belt 15 may also be driven by a separate motor (not shown).
