Abstract

480,818. Endess - belt conveyers. BAINBRIDGE, F., and WOOD & CO., Ltd., H. Dec. 21, 1936, No. 35055. [Class 78 (i)] In conveyers of the kind in which the inner surface of the belt is in contact with a short endless belt running around a driving roller and a companion roller, the companion roller is of smaller diameter than the driving roller and resilient means is provided for maintaining close contact between the slack portion of the conveyer belt leaving the driving drum and the slack of the auxiliary belt. The sloping upper members of the driving head have bearings f at about the middle of their length for mounting a driving roller g, and slots h near the top for mounting a smaller companion roller k. An endless belt l passes around the rollers g, k, and is maintained in close driving contact with the conveyer belt b by a jockey roller n, which is mounted on vertical stubs o slidable in bosses m on the driving head. The jockey roller is loaded by springs p, and can be reversed to press the lower strand of the belt b against the belt l. The lower run of the belt b is used for conveying, and material is discharged by a tripper t on to a conveyer u which carries away also any undischarged material carried around. between the belts b, l and separated from them where they leave the roller k. The tripper has adjustable uprights 5 for supporting an idler roller 6 for the belt b. A telescopic inverted trough 1 shields the lower run of the belt b between the tripper and driving head. In a modification the tripper is replaced by a plough 7, Fig. 3, which is mounted on a base plate 8. Coiled springs 12 press the plough on to the belt. A side wall 13 on the base plate prevents spillage. Specification 475,175 is referred to.
