Abstract

709,780. Endless belt conveyers. CUTHBERTSON, J. A. April 15, 1952, No. 9389/52. Class 78 (1) In an endless belt conveyer, the belt consists of a series of interconnected flexible units each of which consists of longitudinally spaced abutment means around which is looped a flexible tension member, at least one of the abutment means extending substantially the whole width of the unit and the looping engaging the abutment means to form spaced longitudinal stretches lying in a plane parallel to the material-engaging face of the unit and a transverse stretch extending substantially the whole width of the unit, the tension member and abutment means being in a unitary manner embedded and enclosed in rubber or rubberlike material to form the unit. As shown, each flexible unit consists of two transverse rows of pulley wheels 6 arranged in staggered relationship, and a steel cable 5 which is passed sinuously around the pulley wheels and thereafter in a transverse stretch 5B, the two ends being joined together at 5C, and the whole assembly being embedded and enclosed in a rubber block 7. Recesses 8 are provided in block 7 to receive flush with its top and bottom face plates 2 for connecting the units together, rivets for this purpose passing through aligned holes in the top and bottom plates and axial holes in the pulley wheels so as to form bearings for the latter to facilitate transmission of tension along the cable. Spaces 9, 10 between the plates 2 allow of universal flexing of the band. Canvas cores 15 inserted above and below the longitudinal stretches 5A reinforce the band for passage.around rollers.
