Abstract
570,973. Vehicle wheels. SCRUTTONS, Ltd., and ROBINSON, S. L. Nov. 17, 1943, No. 19177. [Class 144 (ii)] A collapsable rim to allow ready removal of small-diameter pneumatic tyres, such as are used on truck wheels for heavy loads, comprises a rim transversely divided into four or more segments 11 ... 14 of substantially equal size, at least one of which 11 has its two ends inclined to each other at only a comparatively small angle, e.g. 25 degrees, to permit its easy insertion under the tyre, before inflation, without undue pressure in forcing the other abutting segments apart to allow entry of this segment; the assembled segments are self-sustaining under the tyre pressure. The rim is direotly mounted on a hub 32 by a clamping ring 34 secured thereto by nuts 35 screwed on to studs 36. Two of the segments may be formed each with their two ends inclined to each other at the above small angle, the other two segments having their ends shaped to correspond.
