Abstract
570,730. Transformers &c. SHEPHERD, G. R. (Westinghouse Electric International Co.). Jan. 20, 1944, No. 1115. [Class 38 (ii)] A transformer or like core comprises one or more loops formed from a steel ribbon wound flatwise, each loop 2, 3 being provided with smooth butt joints 6, 7 on opposite sides to provide separate upper and lower sections 4, 5. The sections are jointed by thermoplastic material and maintained in position and under constant pressure by a resilient band 8, clamped whilst under tension to form a coupling 9, which is effected by a tool which crimps sleeve 13 and the sides of the strap, Figs. 21, 22, 23. Alternatively, tension on the band is effected by adjustable bolts 28, Fig. 9, and nuts 29 extending through the end frame 25 and attached at 31 to the ends of the band. The band may embrace the cores in a variety of ways and be used in conjunction with resilient spring members 23, Fig. 7, and with channels 48, 51 and lugs 52, 52a attached to the casing 53, Fig. 16.
