Abstract
624,666. Transformers and inductances. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., and CHADWICK, A. T. Jan. 31, 1947, No. 3059. [Class 38 (ii)] A ferro-magnetic core of a transformer or choke made of steel having a best magnetic direction comprises three or more laminated parallel limbs as at 10, the planes of the laminµ and the best magnetic direction being parallel to the lengths of the limbs, and end yokes 13, 14 of substantially cylindrical laminµ, having their best magnetic direction arranged circumferentially. The end yokes may be made by closely coiling a strip of magnetic material and may have half the cross-sectional area of the limbs. The limbs and yokes may be secured together by means of bands 15 or by spiders and a central bolt. With this construction the laminµ of limb and yokes at the abutting surfaces are substantially parallel and the magnetic path can be wholly in the best magnetic direction.
