Abstract
657,866. Transformers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 17, 1949, No. 7332. Convention date, April 13, 1948. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] A core and coil assembly, e.g. for a transformer, comprises a magnetic core including a plurality of core loops 2, 3, each loop formed from a ribbon of magnetic sheet steel wound flatuise layer on layer and having a rectangular window therein, the several layers being banded together to form a solid structure, each loop having butt joints 6, 7 on opposite sides so providing separable portions 4, 5, a winding structure 1 extending through the window in the core loop, insulating material between the inner surface of the core loop and the winding structure including a sheet or sheets 25 of thermoplastic resin having a melting or softening point below 120‹ C. and positioned against the inner surface of the core loop at least in the neighbourhood of the butt points, a thermoplastic bonding material disposed between the faces of the butt joints, a resilient metal band 8 being placed about each core loop under tension for maintaining constant pressure on the joint.
