[Classes 69 (i) and 135] A valve or meter for liquids comprises a casing housing movable vanes 16 uniformly disposed on a central shaft, the vanes being moved by the pressure of the supply against a counter-resistance to uncover arcuate slots 21 in the casing wall to allow egress of the liquid, the movement of the vanes also actuating a device, such as an electric switch, or indicating the rate of flow. As shown, the casing is divided into three compartments by removable partitions 18, each compart-, ment housing a vane 16 projecting from a sleeve 15 carried on a spindle 14, and the fluid which enters the first compartment past a filter 11 and through a pipe 8 pushes back the vane and flows out through slot 21 into an intermediate chamber and then into the second compartment through a port 20. The third chamber is connected in series with the other two, but all three may be in parallel. The casing is provided with front and rear covers 4, 5 and an intermediate wall 3, the intermediate chambers being formed between wall 3 and cover 5. The spindle is mounted on a needle bearing 26 at one end and is sealed at the other by a rubber sleeve 29 clamped at its ends to the spindle and to a nipple 31 on the cover 5, the sleeve being reinforced by brass rings 33 or a binding of cord, chain, &c. The spindle carries a pulley 28 to which are attached two cords passing round further pulleys and being attached at their other ends to a counter-weight. The latter carries a pointer moving over a vertical scale and may actuate relays in an electric heater circuit. The vanes have felt inserts around the edges. In a modification, the spindle is connected to a pointer through a gear train, and a spring acting as the counter resistance surrounds the sleeve 29.
