[Class 55 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] A gas cleaner comprises a liquid bath towards which gas is deflected by a baffle 10, the impervious part of which terminates above the liquid level and carries a filter of substantial width partly immersed in the bath and having horizontally spaced vertical screens 14, the length of the gas path being increased by vertical baffles 11, the whole of the filter being washed by the surging of the liquid which may as shown be contained in an annular bath. The gas may enter centrally into a space divided by annular baffles arranged to give a zig-zag path, the gas receiving a preliminary cleansing by passage over table-tennis balls 25 floating in liquid. The filter may be floatingly supported by the liquid, a final filter bed 19 may be provided.
