Abstract
526,178. Washing gases. CRESPO, L. S. GARCIA-, and GALINSKI, A. March 9, 1939, No. 7676. [Class 55 (ii)] Impurities such as soot are removed from combustion gases which are passed through an inlet 3 into an inner chamber 5 containing water, the pressure of the gases causing the level ot the water to fall until holes 6 at the base of the chamber are uncovered to allow the gases to pass into and bubble through the water in an outer casing 1. This casing is provided with a wire cage 12 containing wire gauze, glass wool, or the like to break up the bubbles and act as a filter. The washed gases escape through an outlet 14. The space 4 between the casing 1 and an outer casing 2 is filled with water for cooling the device. In a modification, the device may be duplicated, the gases passing through two such washing means in succession. A fan 25 may be employed in the case of an industrial furnace 21 to withdraw the combustion products, and force them through the washer, the chimney 22 being provided with a septum 23 causing the gases to pass by a pipe 24 to the washer and by a pipe 27 to the upper part of the chimney.
