[Class 20 (iv)] [Also in Group V] A cylindrical metal core 9 is supported horizontally in a mould, concrete is disposed around the core, and the concrete (or at least that part of it immediately surrounding the core) is allowed or caused to become selfsupporting by partially setting, whereupon the core is withdrawn. A quick set may be produced by introducing steam into the (hollow) core 9. The concrete may be consolidated by vibration. Reinforcing rods 10, 11 welded to stirrups 12 are embedded in the concrete. The core is divided midway of its length, the two parts being aligned by a short tube 17 ; tommy-bar holes 16 facilitate withdrawal. A floor, Fig. 4, is constructed of beams laid side by side, the spaces between being filled with cement grouting and reinforcement 19. Specifications 521,785 and 553,408 are referred to.
