Abstract

567,223. Jointing tubes. TINDALE, C. R. July 30, 1943, No. 12421. [Class 83 (iii)] Drilling ; drills.-Tubes to be joined, as by welding, are cut to fit by an annular cutter operating in a jig. The teeth k are formed on a high-speed steel portion e, Fig. 1, fitting in grooves formed in an extension d of the body a that is formed of silver steel or nickel chrome steel. An ejector pad h is controlled by a volute spring and has a stem grooved to receive the ends of grub screws i. A slot f in the body provides clearance for the ejector. In a modification, the cutting-end is provided with holes s, Fig. 5, to pass lubricant. The jig comprises a block with a through hole m, Fig. 2, for the tube, either parallel to the base or inclined thereto according to whether the tubes intersect at a right or other angle. Slots in the block house pivoted clamping strips o controlled by springs q and screws p. A bush n guides the cutter. The bush may be chambered at v, Fig. 5, to receive lubricant supplied under pressure at r.
