Abstract
565,609. Non-contact-making relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., CHATTERJEA, P. K., and SCULLY, C. T. May 14, 1943, No. 7710. [Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Group XL] An intervalve coupling network adapted to transmit direct current comprises a linear and a non-linear resistance having a continuous resistance characteristic so arranged that the proportion of the anode voltage variation transferred is greater than the proportion of mean anode voltage transferred. Fig. 1 shows an intervalve coupling consisting of resistance R1, R2 and a non-linear resistance R comprising a negative temperature coefficient thermistor a voltage dependant resistance of the carborundum type. The operating point is preferably arranged to lie on a flat portion of the combined characteristic, Fig. 2 (not shown), and may be so chosen as to have a negative slope causing a voltage amplification. An indirectly heated thermistor may be used and the heating current varied to obtain the desired characteristic. If the mean anode voltage cannot be stepped down sufficiently in one stage, two stages may be used as shown in Fig. 3.
